St Lucia Independence Pride In Our Community
Celebrating Independence With A Clean-up Campaign
According to Director of Engineering, Eduardo Urquiz, Marigot Bay Resort and Marina is "Green" all year round, developing environmental best practices on focus areas including reducing energy and water consumption, and recycling water for irrigation.
"We understand that our business impacts the earth and its resources, so there is a need for corporate social responsibility, and an approach to our work that embodies our vision and values," he explains. "Participating in local community environmental activities is important. We do a weekly 'deep-cleaning' of the beach, and we clean the main road access monthly."
With that in mind, Marigot Bay Resort and Marina is preparing to celebrate Saint Lucia's Independence with more than just fun events.
As part of the ongoing programme of green initiatives, on Thursday, February 20, the resort team will partner with local businesses and the Parliamentary Representative for the area in a community clean-up event.
Assistant Sales and Marketing Manager, Michelle Hamilton explains that in November 2019, the resort's environmental committee - known as the 'Green Team' - rolled out a week long 'Environmental Campaign', the purpose of which was "to ensure a healthier, cleaner and safer environment for ourselves and the future of our children and country."
During the campaign, members of the Green Team met with different departments to evaluate and assist in their individual environmental efforts, a learning opportunity that provided insight into energy and cost savings practices, as well as environmental awareness at home.
Michelle explains: "In 2020, we want to extend our efforts further to the community, hence the launch of Marigot Bay Resort and Marina's Independence Clean-up Campaign under the theme, 'Pride In Our Community.'"
Collaborating with the Saint Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority, Marigot Bay businesses Chateau Mygo and Doolittles, as well as private villa owners in the neighbourhood, Marigot Bay Resort and Marina will welcome Honourable Ernest Hilaire at 8am on February 20, to say a few words ahead of the clean-up.
"We're looking for as many people as possible to come out and join us, invites Michelle. "Let's clean up Marigot Bay in good time to celebrate Independence!"
